USDC ELECTS PHILIPS RESEARCH SENIOR VP, DIEGO OLEGO, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 10, 2004 - The U.S. Display Consortium (USDC), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flat panel display (FPD) industry supply chain, today announced that Dr. Diego Olego has been elected chairman of the USDC’s governing board. Olego, a member of USDC’s board of directors since 2002, replaces Dr. Dalen Keys of DuPont, who will remain as a USDC board director. In addition to Olego’s new role with the USDC, he will continue to serve as senior vice president for Philips Research and managing director of Philips Research USA.

As chairman of the board, Olego will be responsible for providing oversight on USDC’s decisions on policy, program content and disposition of funds available to the consortium to sponsor FPD-technology related R&D projects. During his term, working with the governing board and all USDC stakeholders he plans to steer the USDC’s strategic direction in a way that will increase the consortium’s value in the electronics industry and the application areas it serves.

Commenting on the new appointment, Michael Ciesinski, USDC’s president and CEO, noted, “The USDC is very grateful for Dalen’s strategic vision and commitment over his last two terms as USDC chairman. We are pleased to have him remain on our board as we continue to build the FPD supply chain.”

Ciesinski added, “We are excited that Diego will lead the USDC Governing Board, and are confident that he will augment our efforts to promote the industry, educate the stakeholders, and fund the necessary R&D projects designed to speed the adoption of next-generation display solutions.”

“The FPD industry continues to grow and evolve at an explosive pace. Today, we are witnessing the broad adoption of FPD applications that were once deemed only-imaginable, many of which have been made possible by the USDC’s efforts over the last decade,” noted Olego. “I look forward to serving the USDC and FPD industry in this position to ensure the continued success of USDC’s programs moving forward.”

In his existing role as senior vice president of Philips Research and managing director of Philips Research USA, Olego is responsible for overseeing the company’s research activities in North America in areas of healthcare systems, display systems and wireless communications. Since joining Philips Research in 1986, he has held several senior management positions including director of electronic design, research department head of new device options and project leader of optical physics. In 1990, Olego spent one year at Hitachi Central Research Laboratory in Tokyo in a research exchange between Hitachi and Philips. He has also held other research-related positions at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, AT&T Bell Laboratories and the Eastern Research Center of Stauffer Chemical Company. Olego holds a Ph.D. in solid-state physics from Stuttgart University, Germany, and a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University, N.Y.
