USDC’S SIXTH ANNUAL FLEXIBLE DISPLAYS AND MICROELECTRONICS CONFERENCE SET FOR FEBRUARY 5-8, 2007
2007 Conference to Explore Leading-Edge Innovation Aimed to Spur Commercialization of
Flexible Displays and Microelectronics
SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 13, 2006—The U.S. Display Consortium ( USDC), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flat panel display (FPD) industry infrastructure, today announced that its sixth annual Flexible Displays and Microelectronics Conference will be held in Phoenix, Ariz. beginning February 5, 2007. The 3 ½-day conference boasts an impressive preliminary agenda of global private and public companies and research institutions ready to unveil the latest in the burgeoning flexible displays and microelectronics arenas.
The conference will reveal increasing coverage of the broader microelectronics applications and alternative manufacturing approaches, which will be apparent not only in the 3 days of presentations, but further emphasized by the short course delivered by a team from Motorola on the application of printing technologies to pattern organic and inorganic microelectronics components and devices. Aiming to spur commercialization, the forum enables collaboration between industry, academia and government in order to tackle the current challenges, and to learn of the latest technological advancements that will drive these markets from concept to fruition.
For the past five years, the conference has drawn participation from industry’s electronics powerhouses, think-tanks and executives—with 2007 figures widely expected to surpass last’s year’s record-breaking attendance. The summit will kick off with today’s top market research firms who cover these industries, including DisplaySearch, DisplayBank, cintelliq and Nano Markets, all of whom will provide insight and outlook on the markets and applications. These will be followed by more than 50 invited and submitted presentations from an array of companies including: Applied Materials, Cornell, Philips, Dow Corning, DuPont Teijin Films, E Ink, EMD Chemicals-Merck, Fuji Films Dimatix, GE, HP, Kodak, Motorola, Nissan Chemical, Plastic Logic, Plextronics, Polymer Vision, Samsung SEC and Samsung SDI.
“We’re proud to bring this conference back for the sixth year in the row as it not only demonstrates the rapidly growing interest in these burgeoning markets, but also the confidence in USDC to provide a valuable forum for identifying and solving barriers and sharing progress and successes,” noted Dr. M. Robert Pinnel, chief technology officer for USDC and conference organizer. “Since our conference’s debut, we’ve seen many innovation developments and enormous advancements, due in large part to the industry collaborations that have been created and revealed at this event. We expect the 2007 conference to bring many of the brightest minds back together again to explore how this exciting technology will proliferate, empower and enhance our national security interests, as well as our work and home environments in ways some deemed unimaginable or viewed with some skepticism just a few years ago. It’s clearly no longer a question of if, but rather, a question of when and how this technology will be applied —and that’s what this conference intends to answer,” he added.
For the first time ever, the 55-plus presentations will span two tracks during the middle day of the conference to enable 15 topical sessions, including:
In addition, the conference features more than 20 student poster papers represented by prestigious universities such as Arizona State, Duke, Penn State, Lehigh, Princeton and the University of Rochester among others. This follows the successful introduction of this component of the conference at last year’s event. The poster paper sessions along with an exhibitor forum will run concurrently during the breakout sessions for all three days of the conference.
The upcoming USDC conference returns to the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, adjacent to the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. With record attendance anticipated, USDC highly recommends registering early before space fills up and to take advantage of pre-registration rates.
