USDC UNVEILS FULL AGENDA FOR UPCOMING ANNUAL
FLEXIBLE ELECTRONICS & DISPLAYS CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION
Agenda Features Business Opportunities in Printed Electronics, an Expanded Short Course, R&D Program Presentations and a New Academic Research Track
SAN JOSE, Calif., November 8, 2007—The U.S. Display Consortium (USDC), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flexible electronics and displays industry supply chain, today announced the full agenda for its 7th annual Flexible Electronics & Displays Conference and Exhibition. This conference is a “don’t miss” opportunity to hear first-hand about the latest advances in flexible electronics and displays, and will feature more than 70 presentations on business trends, market development and R&D programs. The conference will be held on January 21 – 24, 2008 at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort in Phoenix, Ariz.
Motorola and Arizona State University’s Flexible Display Center team up on Monday, January 21st for a short course on “Flexible Electronics: Transformational Technology for Revolutionary Applications”. The course, which sold out in 2007, will update the knowledge base surrounding printed electronics. Speakers will address advances in materials and enabling technologies, as well as in international road-mapping and global standards development. Specifically, the instructors will review printing techniques and the compatibility of materials and substrate surfaces that are critical factors for the success of printed devices.
Dr. A. Michael Andrews, VP Research & Engineering / CTO for L-3 Communications Corporation, formally kicks off the conference with a keynote address on Tuesday, January 22nd. According to Andrews, “The development of flexible displays and printed electronics highlighted in this conference represent a truly transformational technology with broad applications in our defense and security marketplace. The warfighters of the future will increasingly depend upon obtaining the most up-to-date intelligence available at the point of attack to make critical accurate decisions. Flexible electronics will play a role in providing a rugged, low weight, and low power method for getting this data to the user.”
Andrews’ keynote will provide the lead-in to the “Market Outlook” segment, which will feature business status presentations from DisplaySearch and E Ink. The “New Markets and Applications” segment follows with market research firms IDTech and NanoMarkets analyzing and forecasting demand for flexible and printed electronics products. Day one of the USDC conference concludes with speakers from Aveso (credit cards), Tagsys (RFID) and the University of Tokyo describing future flexible electronics products; and Samsung, Polymer Vision and Universal Display Corp discussing future display products.
The “Business, Markets and Developmental” track runs on January 23 - 24 in parallel with the new “Academic and Fundamental Research” track. Speakers on Day two and three span the commercial sector and include EMD Chemicals, 3M, GE, Philips, LG.Philips LCD, Samsung, Plastic Logic, Kent Displays and the Palo Alto Research Center. The academic community is represented by researchers from Arizona State University, Binghamton University, Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, North Dakota State University, Princeton University and the University of Texas at Dallas.
