3D Biz-Ex CALL FOR TOPICS
Submission Due Date: May 1, 2007

A Stereoscopic 3D Symposium & Exhibition

September 18-19, 2007
Embassy Suites Hotel
Burlingame, CA (near SFO Airport)

The US Display Consortium (USDC) and Insight Media will host the second annual 3D Biz-Ex – A tereoscopic 3D Symposium & Exhibition, near San Francisco Airport, to highlight the markets and applications for 3D displays.

The structure of this year’s event is based on feedback from participants in the 2006 event. We are expanding the exhibition, seminar sessions and focusing on the business opportunities in stereoscopic 3D. We have major plans for expanding even further in 2008, with several co-located events and exciting partners.

“We are standing at the cusp of a new wave of enthusiasm for stereoscopic 3D,” notes Insight Media President, Chris Chinnock. “However, the market is very fragmented today with each application having developed its own solutions, culture and technology, with little awareness of other applications with similar needs and technology. This 3D BIZ-EX event will help create awareness of the richness of the stereoscopic 3D industry, and allow for interdisciplinary discussions and cross-pollination of these applications.”

“Seeing 3D is the only way to understand its maturity and benefits, so we also wanted to create the largest exhibition of 3D hardware and software solutions to date. We have planned for 40 exhibitors this year and hope to expand this significantly next year,“ added Brett Bryars, director of technical programs at USDC.

This year’s event will feature 6 sessions of talks, over the course of one and one-half days. The second afternoon will be devoted to product demonstrations, the exposition, and networking for members of the press and non-symposium guests.

We seek papers that detail how stereo 3D is essential for certain applications, discuss the market opportunity and business steps needed to grow the 3D industry, or describe significant technical advancements that impact 3D applications. Please submit your ideas in the form of an abstract for the following sessions:

  • 3D Markets & Outlook

  • Public Display Markets (e.g. cinema, signage)

  • Professional Applications (e.g. visualization, simulation, CAD)

  • Entertainment Applications (e.g. mobile, TV, gaming, computers, automotive)

  • Military and Security Applications

A committee of industry veterans will review submissions for novelty of information, applicability to one of the topics listed above, and anticipated audience interest. Although there are many technical developments underway in the 3D industry, papers at this conference are intended to show how these developments affect the market/applications rather than the technical details themselves.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit a title, company/university/agency affiliation and a succinct but descriptive abstract of your offering in electronic format (word doc.) on or before May 1, 2007 to heidi@usdc.org. Inquiries can be addressed to Brett Bryars, USDC, by e-mail at bbryars@usdc.org.

The final agenda of invited and submitted papers will be constructed in May and all submitters will be notified of status at that time. Presentations will be 20 minutes, plus 5 minutes for Q&A.

Written papers are not expected, but final presentation slides must be provided in electronic format three weeks in advance of the conference (September 1, 2007) for the proceedings booklet, or possibly a CD. Accepted speakers will receive complimentary registration to the conference.

Based on last year’s 3D Workshop, over 150 participants are expected from industry and government, who represent not only the display community, but also related application fields and supply-chain companies. We expect these attendees will come to:

  • Share the vision, strategic and tactical plans and implementation schedule for the 3D technologies and markets.

  • Understand who, what, where, status and results of the numerous efforts focused on meeting the needs for 3D systems.

  • Present, discuss and debate the requirements, status, progress, barriers, gaps and opportunities in 3D display development and product implementation.

  • Network with attendees and exhibitors from other disciplines to develop new understand that can be leveraged in your development area

  • Refine your strategic and tactical business planning

  • Make new supplier, distributor, customer and partner connections

  • Visit over 35 stereoscopic demonstrations of hardware in one location

We believe this focused topic symposium and exhibition, which draws together a large majority of the key industry participants and experts, will be an excellent venue for presenting your most significant achievements in the 3D market.
