U.S. DISPLAY CONSORTIUM APPOINTS NEW CHIEF TECHNICAL OFFICER

 Mark Hartney Joins USDC’s Executive Team

SAN JOSE , Calif. , May 23, 2007 – The U.S. Display Consortium ( USDC), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flat panel display (FPD) industry infrastructure, today announced the appointment of Mark A. Hartney, Ph.D., as its chief technical officer ( CTO). Bringing more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor, FPD, medical imaging, data storage and consumer electronics industries to his new position, Dr. Hartney will be responsible for directing USDC’s current technical program and providing a vision for new sectors to leverage USDC’s supply chain R&D expertise.

“The USDC Governing Board is very pleased to have Mark join our management team as CTO. Combining a strong technical background and broad professional experience with product development and market evangelism skills, Mark will be instrumental in managing the current R&D program and setting the vision for new and exciting USDC initiatives,” stated USDC President Michael Ciesinski. “The board extends our appreciation and best wishes to Dr. Bob Pinnel, who is retiring as CTO, and has been with USDC since our inception in 1993,” Ciesinski concluded.

Dr. Hartney most recently worked as vice president of Table Talk, a private consulting firm. In that capacity, he was director of business operations for PanelLink Cinema, a subsidiary of Silicon Image. Prior to this, he held senior positions at Silicon Image, including director of market development, SATA evangelist and director of technical marketing for the company’s semiconductor, storage and PC/display products. Dr. Hartney has also worked for dpiX, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, AT&T Bell Laboratories and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), as well as had a one-year fellowship at the White House Science Office. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in this same field from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Hartney is a member of the board of directors for the Bay Area Glass Institute, a non-profit arts organization, in San Jose, Calif.
