USDC PARTNERS WITH EDIRAK ON FLEXIBLE DISPLAY SEMINAR AT IMID 2005

San Jose, Calif., July 8, 2005 – The U.S. Display Consortium (USDC) today announced its partnership with the Electronic Display Industrial Research Association of Korea (EDIRAK), in cooperation with the Korea Information Display Society (KIDS) conference committee, to co-organize the “Plastic Electronics Special Session” at the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID 2005), set for July 19-22, 2005 in the KOEX Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul, Korea. The USDC is an industry-led public/private partnership providing a common plat-form for flat panel display (FPD) manufacturers and developers, users and the supplier base.

USDC’s highly regarded R&D program is focused on advancing the equipment and materials supply chain needed to produce conformable displays and other flexible microelectronics products. Consequently, the consortium is able to draw on its development partners to help advance general industry knowledge on recent technical and business developments. Companies presenting at the USDC & EDIRAK seminar include: Cabot Corporation, Dimatix, DuPont Tejin Films, E Ink, GE Global Research, HP, Iowa Thin Film Technologies, PARC, Philips Research, Universal Display Corp., and Vitex Systems. These USDC corporate partners will complement presentations from Hitachi, Samsung, Seiko Epson and numerous universities from Japan, Korea and the U.S. in this two-day, 27 technical papers session. Flexible displays will make possible imaging products that are lighter, more rugged and conformable in their application.

“Companies involved in USDC’s flexible display and microelec-tronics program are on the forefront of technological advances in new materials and manufacturing capabilities that can re-shape electronics manufacturing,” noted Dr. M. Robert Pinnel, chief technical officer at USDC. “We are very pleased to partner with EDIRAK in order to more quickly advance toward commercial-ization of products that take advantage of these new capabilities.” The USDC hosts its annual conference on Flexible Displays and Microelectronics each February in Phoenix, Ariz. By partnering with organizations such as EDIRAK, the USDC expands opportunities for companies in the display R&D and manufacturing communities to interact with one another and with potential new participants from related electronics industries.
