The U.S. Display Consortium (USDC) is an industry-led, public/ private partner-ship providing a common platform for panel display manufacturers, developers, flat panel display users and the supplier base. Headquartered in San Jose, Calif., the consortium’s mission is to help develop the supply chain for manufacturing high-definition displays. For more information about the USDC, please visit www.usdc.org.

This summer edition of DisplayTrends is one of the USDC’s most information-rich issues to date, and features a compilation of articles authored by today’s leading electronics executives, academia, market analysts, and of course, our very own expert staff.

We’ll kick off this issue with an exclusive Q&A with Greg Heinzinger, president of QUALCOMM MEMS Technologies. This follows with a progress update from Greg Raupp, who is d irector of the Flexible Display Center (FDC) at Arizona State University (ASU).

From the market analyst perspective, we’re pleased to feature a column from Chris Chinnock of Insight Media, who will explain how we’re witnessing a renaissance in the types of emerging illumination solutions for LCD and projection systems. VLSI Research’s John West will provide parallel commentary on the display equipment industry.

USDC’s Director of Technical Programs, Brett Bryars, will review some of current activities underway at the USDC that are designed to enhance/expand our offerings and member services. Lastly, we’ll round out this quarter’s issue with a recap of some of the recent successes and milestones achieved through our contracts with National Starch & Chemical and General Dynamics Canada. Also, don’t forget our call for papers for our sixth-annual Flexible Displays and Microelectronics Conference—more details and submission guidelines are included in this issue and also available on our website at www.usdc.org.

We hope you enjoy reading DisplayTrends. As Brett mentions, USDC is continuously looking at how to best service to our members, affiliates and peers—so if you have any suggestions for DisplayTrends, or would like submit an article for the upcoming Fall issue, please let us hear from you.
