Phoenix, AZ

CALL FOR PAPERS

Business, Markets and Developmental Track
Submission Due Date: September 15, 2007

The U.S. Display Consortium (USDC) will host the 7th annual conference on flexible electronics and displays, which covers a spectrum of technical, market and business issues related to technology, manufacturing, and products. In 2008, this premier U.S. conference will be co-chaired by two industry veterans, Abbie Gregg, CEO of Abbie Gregg, Inc. (AGI), and Dan Gamota, Ph.D., Director of the Printed Electronics Department at the Motorola Physical Realization Research Center of Excellence.

USDC seeks papers that highlight recent innovations and accomplishments in the emerging fields of flexible electronics and displays. Approximately 45 presentations will be given over the span of 3 days offering the latest and most significant data on the advancements in technology, materials, manufacturing and markets/applications. The business plans of major corporations and research institutes, that are leading the effort to commercialize flexible electronics and display based product offerings, are another key element of the conference.

The conference agenda will focus on all critical topic areas in the emerging field of roll-to-roll flexible, printed, and organic electronics:

  • Strategic Market and Business Overviews

  • Materials Advancements for Flexible Electronics

  • Manufacturing on Flexible Substrates

  • Flexible Displays

  • Flexible Electronics Based Applications and Products (e.g., RFID, sensors, PV, lighting)

To have your presentation considered for the 2008 conference, please submit the title, company/university/agency affiliation and a succinct, descriptive abstract in electronic format (Word .doc) on or before September 15, 2007. Submissions and inquiries should be sent to Kay Mascoli, kmascoli@usdc.org.

Important Dates:

  • Deadline for Submission of Abstracts
    September 15, 2007

  • Notification of Abstract Acceptance
    October 1, 2007

  • Presenter Commitment to Present
    October 15, 2007

  • Final Paper Submission
    ** January 3, 2008

The final agenda will be announced in October. **An extended abstract (less than one page) and final presentation slides must be provided in powerpoint format by January 3, 2008. USDC will prepare pre-conference proceedings books, and a post-conference CD, with .pdf versions of the slides.

Accepted speakers will receive a significantly reduced conference participation fee of $350.

Background and Perspective:

Focused R&D on flexible electronics and displays technology began in earnest in the U.S. in 1999, both by DARPA contractor teams and by USDC under an ongoing DARPA-funded display supply chain program. It has since become a global topic of high interest expanding to encompass many electronics product sectors including lighting, power, RFID tags, sensors and electronic packaging.

Based on previous events, the organizing committee expects nearly 400 participants representing over 100 companies/universities/government agencies to attend the conference. These attendees, from technical, marketing, product development, manufacturing, and business planning functions, represent the many different segments of the flexible electronics and displays value and supply chains. The annual USDC Flexible Electronics and Displays Conference has established itself as the premier event for:

Understanding the who, what, where, status and results of the numerous efforts focused on meeting the needs to enable flexible electronics and displays

Presenting, discussing and debating the requirements, status, progress, barriers, gaps and opportunities in flexible electronics and displays development and product implementation

Interacting with the best and brightest scientists, engineers, and business professionals establishing the emerging market for flexible electronics and display based products

Developing consensus agreements on priorities and focus for future investment by industry, academia, and government agencies

Sharing the vision, strategic and tactical plans, and implementation progress of the FDI, the ARL Flexible Display R&D Center at ASU, the Center for Advanced Microelectronics Manufacturing at Binghamton University, and the USDC supply chain program, including development of commercially viable toolsets, materials and process technology, for flexible substrate manufacturing.

In 2008, the conference will add a full-day ‘academic track’, for peer-reviewed papers, focused on academic and fundamental research. Papers submitted for this track will be formally published and cataloged in the IEEE database. To view a copy of the abstract for the ‘academic track’, please visit www.usdc.org. This track will be Co-Chaired by Bahgat Sammakia, Director, Center for Advanced Microelectronics Manufacturing (CAMM), and Greg Raupp, Director, Flexible Display Center (FDC).

The conference committees are also actively seeking papers describing achievements from other industry and university contributors representing the international flexible, printed, organic electronics community. The timely commercialization of flexible electronics and display-based products is a global endeavor. This annual international conference is recognized as the event to “measure the pulse, gauge the progress, expand the critical mass of contributors and refine the roadmap” to accomplish this goal.

We encourage you to submit your abstracts, as we know these presentations will make for the best Flexible Electronics and Displays conference yet, in January 2008!

Please direct submissions and general inquiries to: Kay Mascoli, kmascoli@usdc.org
